For his altitude and aircraft type, if he would've pitched forward to trade altitude for speed and would've had plenty of time to glide over the end of the mountain range. The end of the mountain range was literally right in front of him! (If it was a real scenario, the first thing I'd to is pitch forward and aim for the end of the range ahead of me at best glide speed, while looking for a backup place to land if I don't make it). If anything he's really lucky the plane didn't explode and start a wild fire. I do think people need to stop hating so much.
